Hudson's Birth Story
Tuesday November 1, 2011 I started feeling small contractions around 11 pm. They continued through the night some strong enough to wake me up and toss around. About 6:30 AM I started timing them. My doctor’s told me when they are consistently 5 minutes apart for an hour to come in. They were consistently 2-3 minutes apart with some being a lot strong than others. I woke up Aaron and texted my mom to see if these were really contractions or just fake ones. She thought they were real and so did Aaron. I hurried and got ready, gathered everything I though I would need and we headed off. Aaron called his boss and got the day off work, we though we were gonna have our baby! The hospital is about 25 minutes away from our house and about half way there we hit a ton of traffic! It was stop and go for a good couple miles. It took us an hour to get to the hospital! The whole way there I was having contractions consistently and they were starting to get stronger. We finally made it to the hospital, Timpanogos Regional, and they took my right back to room 102. I got into a gown and they hooked a heart monitor on me for Hudson and a contraction monitor to see how hard they were getting. She also checked me and I was just shy of a 3 and 90%. They kept me like that for an hour. My mom showed up and was so excited it was finally happening! During that hour the nurse called my Doctor to see if they could admit me because I was already scheduled to be induced the next day at 6:30am. After and hour and no change the doctor said it would be best if I went home and labored on my own for a little while. So we packed up all our things and headed to Target. All their Halloween stuff was on sale and I wanted to get Hudson a Halloween costume for next year! We figured it was best if I kept walking around so we went to University Mall. While we were shopping some of my contractions were getting strong that I would have to squat to help relieve pain. I’m sure people though I was a little crazy! We went to Provo Towne Mall after and decided I probably wouldn’t have Hudson that day but would have to be induced the next morning. So we drove back to the hospital so my mom could get her clothes out of her car. She planned on staying the night so she wouldn’t have to drive home, just to get up early to come back down. Aaron drove us home and had to go to his paramedic class. Me and my mom just chilled, watched TV and I took a shower. My contractions started getting a lot harder and it was harder to relieve the pain. I tried squatting and bending over but nothing was working. My mom suggested going back to the hospital but I didn’t want them to check me, have no progress, keep me an hour, still have no progress and send me back home just to get up and go back early again. Once I started to cry during the contractions we called Aaron and told him to hurry home, we had to go to the hospital. It took him 15 minutes to get home. As we drove the 25 minutes back to the hospital we were stuck behind a highway patrol. My contractions stayed consistently 2-3 minutes apart and were all really strong. When we got to the hospital about 9:30 they took us to room 103 and hooked me up with a heart monitor for Hudson and a contraction monitor. These contractions were a lot worse they they were before! The nurse checked me and I was a 3! So I made a little progress but figured they would send me home, even in tears through every contraction. She called my doctor and he said it would be okay to admit me! I was so excited because they said I could get my epidural at any time! I requested it right away. It didn’t take the nurse anesthetist very long to get there and around 10:40 I was feeling great! The epidural didn’t hurt and I was amazed that it relieved all my pain and that my legs were so limp! Shortly after my epidural my Doctor came in and broke my water. The Nurse checked me about 11 and I was a 4. My dad, JJ and Sarah all showed up and we were just hanging out waiting for Hudson to show up! My nurse checked me again at 12:10 and I was a 6! I still figured I had a few more hours until he would be ready to come. At 1:10 my mom walked out to get something out of the car and my nurse walked in to check me again. I was in shock when she said “ wow you’re a 10! Call the doc I can see his head!” After the doc was in there and everything was set up I started to push. I pushed for 20 minutes at 1:41am Hudson Aaron Troyer was born. Pushing for me was really easy and I couldn’t even tell what was going on! Aaron got to cut they cord and they took him to his little bed to clean him off and take all of their measurements. He was 7 pounds and 20.5” long. Right after I delivered I felt sick to my stomach and hollered at Aaron to get me something to throw up in. I hadn’t eaten anything since lunch at 2 but I had a lot of gastric juices come up. I only threw up for a minute while my doctor stitched me up and showed me the placenta. My nurse brought over Hudson to me. He was the most perfect thing I have ever seen. His eyes were wide open and so was his mouth. He just kept looking at me like he already knew who I was.
