About a year ago we drove past the Payson City Fire Station and saw a sign that they were hiring Volunteer EMT/Firefighters! Aaron was so excited and went to put in his resume, even though he wasn't an EMT or a Firefighter! He was in EMT classes and was already accepted to the Firefighting program at UVU for the following semester. He never got a call back, but once he finished his EMT he updated his resume and took it in to them again. Still no call. After he graduated from the Fire Academy and had all of his certifications, he updated his resume and took it in again. Yes the sign was still up, but he got no call. He had just started his Paramedic Classes and at 9:30 on a Monday night he got a call from Payson's Fire Chief and wanted him to come in for an interview the next day! He was SO excited. He interviewed and saw the guy that was also interviewing and knew him! He's in Aaron's Paramedic class and I teach his son in preschool! Two days later they called Aaron back and offered him the position. I've never seen Aaron this excited about something. He went to orientation, got his shirts, hats and a pager. He also asked to be put on call that night! His shifts are pretty flexible and he only HAS to work 48 hours a month since it is volunteer. He takes his pager with him everywhere whether he's on call or not. He'll listen to it through the day and will text me with the calls that are going on. He's also pretty excited about the perks that he gets now that he's considered a city employee. He get's half off at the golf course and the swimming pool. He also get's to go to any event in Payson, his favorites were the Payson football games and the Payson Temple Ground Breaking this weekend! There is also talk of Payson going full-time pretty soon, and he'd automatically be hired since he will be a paramedic/firefighter!
