I got a call on Monday night from my sister-in-law, who was at her grandparents wit her husband and Aaron, while I was working. They were putting in a new back splash for them. When she called she said that Aaron has some food caught in his throat and couldn't swallow. I didn't think much of it because easily twice a month he will get chicken or beef caught in his throat. He gags and coughs and it comes up and he's fine. So I called Aaron and he said that it had been stuck for an hour and it was getting hard to breathe. I left work and drove up to Sandy where my sister-in-law and grandma were taking him to InstaCare. When he got there they said they couldn't do anything for him. They left and we called our family doctor, who is a close friend of the Troyer family. He said that there isn't much they can do at the ER so don't go there and it would work it's way out on it's own and to come see him in the morning. We went home and Aaron took a hot shower and after lots more trying to swallow and cough it came out! It wasn't a big piece of chicken, just a normal size but everything gets caught in his throat! He instantly felt much better.
The next morning we went to see the Doctor and he said that he needed to get an esophageal dilation done, basically meaning he needs to get his throat widened! When acid comes up into Aaron's throat, whether he feels it or not, it scars a little every time. It just gets progressively worse and it has to be taken care of. We were hoping to get in, in the next day or two but they couldn't get him in until July 1st! So until then Aaron has to be super careful, take tiny bites and swallow with lots of water!
